Abstract

As part of their everyday work, people strive to understand and be understood, share important information, generate ideas, give and receive feedback, and make high-quality decisions, as well as to determine and reach shared goals. At the same time, they aim to build and maintain working relationships with coworkers, employees, supervisors, and customers. In such efforts, collaboration occurs via communication. High-quality and effective communication is needed in order to reach these goals at work, whether they be personal, interpersonal, team-specific, or organizational. Especially in knowledge-intensive and creative work, many of the very processes and outcomes of work are communicative.
