Anna Puupponen

General description

I'm a linguist working as a senior lecturer at the Sign Language Centre (SLC) in the Department of Language and Communication Studies at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. In May 2019, I defended my doctoral thesis about the embodied communication of signers of Finnish Sign Language (FinSL), with a special focus on the semiotic features in the signals produced with the signer's face, head and torso. In my research I've been working with FinSL and Swedish SL corpus data as well as kinematic data. My current research focuses on SL depiction of signers of different ages and it includes methods of corpus linguistics, linguistic ethnography and cognitive neuroscience.

Specialties: Sign Language corpora, Sign Language semiotics, Motion Capture, Computer Vision, kinematic analysis
