Research interests

The Finnish teacher education is highly valued both nationally and internationally, but future holds new challenges for it. Changes in society such as multiculturalism, technology and economic challenges require new approaches to learning and teaching. Previous studies show that teacher education seems to have only little or no effect on students’ concepts of teaching and learning. The aim of this research is to map the field of effectiveness of teacher education on these concepts. This is important so that future teachers will be able to answer the new challenges. The research is an ethnography about one group of student teachers at the University of Jyväskylä. The data is collected by observing the studies and by collecting writings from the student teachers about their learning. The data is analysed by data-driven analysis. The results will enable us to rethink and reorganize Finnish teacher education so that it can better address the challenges of a changing society.
