General description

By studying the sustainability of societies and the role of social work in it, the understanding of the boundary conditions of changes at the levels of societies and welfare service systems can be increased. Examining the different dimensions of sustainability opens up different opportunities and understanding for social work to work together with service users to support sustainable wellbeing and society. Furthermore, since the root causes of social and ecosocial challenges can often be located in the structures of societies and institutions, it is important to study the boundary conditions and possibilities of their structural changes.

Research interests

By researching the ecosocial transition in societies and the role of social work in that transition, it is possible to increase knowledge about the mechanisms, barriers and possibilities concerning the transitions in society and in welfare service systems. Researching and developing the sustainability of welfare services opens various possibilities for social work practitioners to work with their service users in supporting their sustainable wellbeing. In addition, the ecosocially unsustainable practices can be questioned.
