Research interests
Research activities in my group involve chemists with synthetic and / or computational background and interest in examining the chemistry of main group systems that behave like d- and f-block metals and their compounds. This includes, for example, stable radicals as building blocks of new molecule-based materials with interesting magnetic properties as well as main group compounds capable of small molecule activation and catalysis. Research in this field is of fundamental importance but the targeted compounds also offer many benefits over the rare-earth and precious metal-based systems that our technologies currently rely on.
The research group has attracted strong extramural support since its founding in 2008. Individual research projects are / have been funded by the University of Jyväskylä, the European Research Council (ERC-CoG-2017: 772510) the European Commission (H2020-MSCA-IF: 659123), the Research Council of Finland (#123107, 136929, 141000, 141560, 216725, 253907, 272900, 282499, 289172, and 324680), the Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation, Emil Aaltonen Foundation, the Foundation for Research of Natural Resources in Finland as well as many other private Finnish foundations. Several of the group's alumni have gone on to successful careers in industry or in academia.

Nb. In Converis, projects mean external funding related to JYU operations. More extensive studies (e.g. dissertations or Research Council of Finland CoEs) may include multiple funding components, each shown as a different project in Converis. Budget-funded studies (funding only from JYU) are not listed as projects. Regarding personal grants the data is not comprehensive. Start and end dates do not necessarily reflect exact months when the grant has been used. Project data has been recorded systematically since 2017.
