General description
Dr. Christian Stutz is an Academy of Finland Postdoctoral Researcher (2021-2024 ) at Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics as well as the co-leader of the team project “International tensions, local nationalism, and global business: A historical perspective,” funded by the Emil Aaltonen Foundation (2022-2024). In 2022 and 2023, he was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Saïd Business School of the University of Oxford (UK) and the Center of Business History of the Copenhagen Business School (Denmark).
He earned his Ph.D. in Economic History from the Department of History and Ethnology, University of Jyväskylä. Previously, he has been a lecturer in corporate social responsibility and research methods at the HWZ University of Applied Science in Business Administration in Zurich (Switzerland). Also, he worked as the project manager and principal investigator of an application-oriented research project, in co-operation with business partners and funded by Innosuisse, the Swiss Innovation Agency (2017-2019).
In his research, he primarily mobilizes a historical lens to shed new light on the activities and management of organizations. Recent research areas include political aspects of doing business, such as the role of national identity for business organizations.
His work has appeared in the journals Business & Society, Business History, Journal of Business Ethics, M@n@gement, and in book volumes (Springer, Edward Elgar). His conference papers have been selected twice for the Academy of Management Annual Meeting Best Paper Proceedings. He acts as an Associate Editor for the journal Management & Organizational History (MOH). Previously, he also served as a guest editor for a special issue on “historic CSR” for the Journal of Business Ethics (FT50).
Stutz was awarded the 2019 University of Jyväskylä Best Dissertation Award. One of his dissertation papers was also selected as the Runner up of the 2019 Louis Pondy Best Dissertation Paper Award, given by the Organization and Management Theory (OMT) division of the Academy of Management. His commitment to research was also recognized by the “2019 Above and Beyond the Call of Duty” award of the OMT.
