Light is ubiquitous in nature. It is a source of energy but also an important signaling factor. I clarify how proteins function with light. I investigate how light is transformed to biological signaling or energy in the primary reactions of photosynthesis. The research objects are bacterial photosensors, in particular red light absorbing photosensor, bacteriophytochromes.
Further, we have characterised aerobic anoxygenic photosynthesis processes which take place in plant-associated bacteria. These bacteria live inside plants and their role for plant well-being is to determined in the future.
With this information new type of signaling systems in the field of biotechnology could be designed. Also the role of plan-associated bacteria for plant adaptation is clarified.
