Keijo Häkkinen


General description

Keijo Häkkinen works currently as professor emeritus in the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, University of Jyväskylä in the fields of Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics and Science of Sports. The major projects include neuromuscular, cardiorespiratory and endocrine acute responses and prolonged adaptations to strength and power training as well as various combined strength and endurance training modes in men and women and in various athletes.

Research interests

Research interests by Keijo Häkkinen are rather broad within the Biology of Physical Activity in the Faculty of Sport and *Health Sciences. The major interests focus on acute neuromuscular and hormonal responses and long term adaptations during strength training as well as during combined strength and endurance training in men and women at different ages and in athletes from various sport events. He has also investigated physical performance profiles and competitive performance in various sport events as well as seasonal and detraining adaptations in weightlifting, track and field, basketball, volleyball, football and ice-hockey etc. Research information obtained is important from the scientific point of view but it is also valuable for various practical applications.
