Research interests

Investigating teachers' assessment practices of students' reading difficulties in 1st and 6th grade, and the correspondence between teacher ratings and test scores. Research highlights the sensitivity and specificity of teacher ratings especially regarding the lowest achieving students. The aim is to improve recognition of students having difficulties in reading and who need support for their learning. Additionally, SEN teachers' reported reasons for part-time special education and co-occurring difficulties in Grade 1 were studied. Based on the duration of part-time special education (1-2 years or 3-4 years), the development of reading fluency, comprehension and arithmetic fluency across Grades 1 to 4 were studied, and the development was compared to the control group. The research items are based on the First Steps follow-up and JLD study data.
