General description
Tapio Litmanen works as a Professor of Sociology at the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy. He is currently Vice Dean, Responsible for Research and Innovation, of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. His research profile includes environmental sociology, risk research, science and technology studies and civil society research. In particular, he his research has focused on energy and nuclear power policy.

Research interests
His earlier five years Academy Research Fellow project focused on societal-institutional regulation of nuclear fuel cycle. Recent project “Collaborative remedies for fragmented societies – facilitating the collaborative turn in environmental decision-making” (CORE), was funded by Strategic Research Council at the Academy of Finland. The project was led by University of Eastern Finland and it was part of the SRC programme ‘Changing society and active citizenship’.Ongoing project PROMISES (The making of sustainability transitions with expectations
Critical analysis of historical and current promises of nuclear technology) is funded by the Academy of Finland. It examines the construction, maintenance, and revival of techno-scientific promises and their implications for sustainability transitions.
