General description
Dr. Maarit Arvaja is working as a senior researcher at the Finnsih Institute for Educational Research. She is an adjunct professor in the field of collaborative learning and interaction in learning environments. Her current research focuses on university students’ agency and its pedagogical support. Her other research covers topics such as pre-service teachers’ identity construction and university students’ collaborative learning processes.

Research interests
My current research focuses on students' agency construction and development during university studies and the features in the learning contexts that enhance or prevent student agency. The research can be utilized in advancing students' and teachers' awareness of agency and in developing higher education pedagogy.
