Sami Taipale


General description

Associate Professor Sami J. Taipalect uses in his research novel omics (e.g., lipidomics and metatranscriptomics) and traditionally limnological and organic analytical methods to understand the ecological consequences of local and global level environmental changes on aquatic ecosystems. He works also with plastics recycling economy.

Research interests

The function and production of freshwater food webs depends on availability of essential omega-3 fatty acids and sterols. My research interest is to study how climate change (e.g. eutrophication, brownification) impact on synthesis and transfer of omega-3 fatty acids and sterols. I also study the importance of terrestrial organic carbon to lake food web by using fatty acid profiles of consumers and diets in Bayesian mixing models.
