Åsa Palviainen


General description

I am a Professor in Swedish at Department of Language and Communication Studies at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. I earned my PhD degree in General linguistics at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2001 and moved to Finland in 2003. I was awarded a docentship at University of Jyväskylä in 2007 and appointed as Professor in 2012.

Research interests

My research interests include multilingual and digital family language practices as part of the research field family language policy (FLP), mediated discourse analysis (nexus analysis), L2 teaching and learning (especially Swedish in Finland), and language and educational policy issues and discourses.

During 2018-2022 I was the PI of the research project "What's in the app? Digitally-mediated communication within contemporary multilingual families across time and space, funded by the Academy of Finland" (WhatsInApp). For project information, see https://shorturl.at/etuPS
