General description

I am a doctoral researcher at the Department of Language and Communication Studies. In my PhD research, I explore language ideologies and the role of (the majority) language in the Finnish vocational education and training.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, I am a Visiting Fulbright Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Education, Educational Linguistics Division (USA). Previously, I have worked in research and development projects as well as in language teaching positions around the world: at the University of Toronto (Canada), Stockholm University (Sweden), University of Copenhagen (Denmark), University of Jyväskylä, Open University of Jyväskylä, and the Summer University of Jyväskylä (Finland).

Research interests

In my ethnographic doctoral research project, I explore language ideologies and discourses related to migrant students' majority language skills in the Finnish vocational education and training. The study is part of the Building Blocks: Developing Second Language Resources for Working Life research project (PI Prof. Suni, University of Jyväskylä, funded by the Academy of Finland 2019-2023).

My full-time doctoral research is funded by the Ellen and Artturi Nyyssönen foundation, the Finnish Literature Society, the OLVI foundation, the Fulbright Finland Foundation, the American-Scandinavian Foundation (Suomi-Amerikka Yhdistysten Liitto), and the Finnish Cultural Foundation as well as the Department of Language & Communication Studies and the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä.

My PhD supervisors are Prof. Minna Suni and Prof. Sari Pietikäinen.
