General description

Laura Castañe Bassa is a doctoral grant researcher at the Department of Teacher Education in the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Her research interests include language education, multilingualism, linguistic landscapes, linguistic ideologies and translanguaging. Currently, her research work focuses on exploring linguistic practices used to integrate the linguistic repertoire of new speakers in the Catalan educational context, with the aim of improving barrier-free access to education and social equity. Her research is funded by the KONE Foundation and the University of Jyväskylä.

Laura has also worked as a language teacher and early childhood education teacher in multicultural schools, conference coordinator and university teacher. During 2021-2023, she contributed to the development of the TRANSLANGEDUROM project outputs and co-authored a chapter in the Translanguaging for equal opportunities: Speaking Romani at school volume. She also created, reviewed and edited learning materials for the Multilingualism in School and Higher Education Lab’s course “Multilingual Learning Environments” within the FORTHEM Alliance. In 2022, her Master’s thesis was the recipient of the AFinLA award 2022 selected as the best Master’s thesis of 2022 in the field of applied linguistics in Finland.
