Tiivistelmä

The 2-year Master Programme (120 ECTS) “Radiation and its Effects on MicroElectronics and Photonics Technologies (RADMEP)” will provide a multidisciplinary and innovative programme covering the interactions between Radiation and MicroElectronics & Photonics, two Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) for the future of Europe. RADMEP objective is to educate students in those advanced and more and more close KETs, providing methodologies and introducing practical applications for their implementation in a variety of natural or man-made environments associated with radiations. RADMEP has two goals: first to improve their career prospects and second to respond to the needs of the industry, agencies and society. Thanks to this EMJMD, students will develop useful professional and soft skills in the rich European cultural context. The future space, industrial, research sectors will contain an increasing number of advanced, complex, autonomous systems, sensors, diagnostics and experiments that can be challenging to operate in the radiation-rich environments of interest. Today both the microelectronics and photonics KETs are strongly and quickly progressing, especially in Europe, but usually treated as two distinct learning and research topics. However, the development of more and more hybrid technologies, see for example the fast growth of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) or the development of components and systems combining both technologies will offer new opportunities to overcome current and future challenges faced by our radiation community and offer unique job opportunities for students specialized in such domain. With RADMEP, students will benefit from the EU research expertise in this thematic thanks to its strong space and nuclear industries as well as its unique research facilities, such as those available at CERN. This unique cooperation is supported by a strong industrial, agency and academic involvement.
