Summary
Most consumption intensive economies outsource indirect biodiversity impacts through international trade. To be able to avoid, mitigate and offset the impacts, organizations need a tool to recognize what aspects of their operations are causing biodiversity impacts, how much, and where. While biodiversity footprints have been used for example on the national and product levels, calculating biodiversity footprints with financial accounts at an organizational level and developing a tool for decision-making similar to carbon footprint and financial accounts will be a novel and unique undertaking.
