Tiivistelmä
Euclid is the next cosmology satellite project of the European Space Agensy (ESA) after Planck and the most important project in the next decade. The Euclid satellite and the Euclid Science Group Segment (SGS) are important European research infrastructures. Euclid produces a very large amount of observational data, a 3-dimensional map of the Universe, that will have a great impact in both cosmology and astrophysics and form a basis for future research in these fields. The principal objective of the Euclid mission is to solve the most important problem in modern cosmology, th emystery of dark energy. Euclid will also map the distribution of dark matter in the universe, based on its gravitational lensing effect on the light from galaxies, and help to solve the question of the nature of dark matter and the origin of structure in the universe. The data from the satellite will be analyzed by the Euclid SGS, consisting of 9 national Euclid Science Data Centers. The Finnish in-kind contributions to Euclid is to participate in the Euclid SGS, developing data analysis methods, participating in Euclid data analysis, and in particular to provide one of the Euclid Science Data Centers, the SDC-FI. SDC-FI will be set up in the CSC Kajaani Data Center and will eventually consist of petabytes of disk space and the order of 1000 computer cores.
