Summary

This research looks at where and how "race" is present in the city. The notion of "race" is often taboo and terms such as "culture", "ethnicity", or "religion" are used instead. Examining cities provides concrete insights into the way 'race' is reproduced and contested in everyday life. For this reason, this project focuses on "racial landscapes", that is, the way "race" materializes in everyday urban surroundings. This project focuses on Helsinki (Finland), Rotterdam (the Netherlands) and Bordeaux (France). Data will consist of photographs taken by the participants, datawalks and follow-up interviews. The findings are important to promote equality and nondiscrimination in cities.
