Summary

This work will rely on the application of indole derivatives as the outcome-controlling π-bound ligands in a number of purposefully designed palladium-catalyzed CDC transformations of β-ketoesters. In the course of this work, we will uncover the mechanistic details of indole’s participation in these catalytic processes, keeping particular emphasis on its individual and cooperative role in controlling the stereochemistry during the β-ketoester functionalization. These comprehensive studies on indole’s involvement in transition metal catalysis will strongly benefit the scientific community by uncovering a new ligand space that can be further exploited in a variety of synthetic applications.
