Summary

Women with criminal background, traumatic experiences, and development of women-specific services (RITA) project will accomplish a large survey and interview study with women in Finnish prisons. The project will study traumatic experiences in women’s life course and their consequences for women’s service needs. The project will also investigate and evaluate current services in the areas of drug treatment, health, social work with adults and housing in relation to women’s needs for services and support. Based on these findings, the project will develop a new research-based service model in cooperation with professionals, NGOs, and experts by experience. The aim of this model is to support release from prison and better meet the needs of women with criminal background. Developed model will be piloted in two cities /welfare areas. The Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy, University of Jyväskylä is responsible for the project, together with the Department of Social Sciences, University of Turku, and the Department of Law, University of Eastern Finland.
