Summary

Our proposed research project builds on the research and methodological development work we have done in the DIGIHIST consortium (https://blogs.aalto.fi/digihist/) since 2014—a data and research collaboration consortium. This is a research consortium currently involving 8 researchers (1 doctoral student, 4 post-docs, 1 research director, and 2 professors) from six research organizations in Finland and Sweden: Aalto University, University of Jyväskylä, Stockholm School of Economics, Örebro University, Ratio Institute, and Jönköping University. This funding would
enable the hiring of two new doctoral students to join the DIGIHIST consortium. The main aim of our proposed project is to leverage the previously collected data and contemporary computational data-driven methods to push for a big data leap in how the field of management research work with large digitized textual datasets. A big data leap would 1) result in a systematic and much more efficient data processing in historical management research, 2) force historians to explicitly define their methods, increasing the transparency and credibility of the research, and 3) improve collaboration between management researchers and historians.
