Tiivistelmä

The VR journey is a role-play learning game. Here students are responsible for solving a real problem relating to climate change using STEM knowledge from school. The idea is that the student visits different climate hotspots around the World in VR. Currently, students can travel to Morocco, Ethiopia, Jordan, Kiribati and Beijing to experience the effects that climate change on a particular individual. They will then use STEM knowledge to come up with solutions that can be of help to the local. In the end, they will present a solution to a climate panel consisting of fellow pupils and teachers or by climate professionals if the school desire.s The idea is to make STEM subjects (Science, Technology, entrepreneurship and mathematics) an experience where the students are motivated to find the answers to a problem. Tests demonstrate the method appeals to the target group, especially the girls. PROJECT We have entered with a partner - The University of Jyväskylä JYU (http://www.jyu.fi) who has the expertise and the knowledge to take this idea and test and develop it further with us, to create an online teaching experience that will appeal to the target group in Finland. A part of this is to make more tests. More specifically we are looking to create a VR experience from Lapland showing how that Sami people have been learning skills to deal with the changing environment - Skills that will be needed for many other countries in the years to come. We will focus on one man's story like we have done in our previous VR experiences from Kiribati, Jordan, Ethiopia and so on. The idea is then to work with our Finish partner who will write the educational roleplaying game for the learning experience. This will be material based on previous work and research done here in Denmark and a workshop set up at the Finnish university inviting preliminary students in and taking them through the experience and introducing various parts of the new educational material.
