Tiivistelmä
Our aim in UTOPIA is to develop methods to support stakeholders in implementing climate smart forestry, which advances carbon neutrality but also considers financial objectives and adapts to the uncertain and continuously changing world. Forest management optimized at the landscape level provides the best balance between wood production and climate benefits. Such climate smart forestry is unrealistic unless management is entirely under the control of one landowner. Therefore, we will take the real ownership structure into account in the analysis. The key research question is to find out how big the difference between optimal landscape level solution and combined holding level solutions is, and how can this difference be minimized at an acceptable way. Our proposed solution is to enable realistic analyses by refining forest resource data and to develop a prototype of a digital group decision support system to facilitate the uncertainty management in studying trade-offs, visualization of alternatives, eliciting preferences, and negotiation between landowners.
