Summary
Vision: High-quality domestic wild fish for sustainable processing and consumption
The short-term goal (2023–2024) is to start the network's operations and increase cooperation with industry, research, administration and other stakeholders. The specific goal is to increase cooperation between commercial fishermen in the sea area and inland waters. The network's goal is also to expand and be proactive in responding to emerging challenges and opportunities in order to achieve long-term goals. At the same time, we will start applying for external funding for projects according to the development plan.
The medium-term goal (2023–2025) is to experiment, develop and spread new methods of operation and technologies, which would become available already in the second half of the program.
The long-term goal of the program (2023–2028) is to increase the profitability of commercial fishing and the volume of the industry in the open sea, coast and inland waters. At the same time, capabilities are created for the new technologies and operating methods of the future. One of the determinants of the goals is the goals set for commercial fishing mentioned in the Domestic Fish Promotion Program. The promotion program defines an increase in the catch level of commercial fishing by 3 Mkg (3 M€) for coastal areas and 6 Mkg (10 M€) for inland waters by 2035 compared to the level of 2017. The target is to increase the value of the trawl catch in the sea area by 10 M€, even though the amount of catch does not increase. This also requires a considerable increase in the consumption of caught fish. At the same time, the ecological, social and economic sustainability of commercial fishing must be ensured.
