Impurity spins in silicon are one of the most promising platforms for realising qubits for quantum information and quantum sensing applications. Not the least because they would allow the leveraging of the current huge silicon fabrication infrastructure for future quantum technologies. At the moment the application potential of spin qubits in silicon is, however, limited as the readout mechanisms require millikelvin temperatures and high magnetic fields and there are no convenient coupling mechanisms for them. In this project, we will realize an optical readout mechanism for impurity spin states in silicon. This will enable not only higher operating temperature but also opens up the avenues for fully optical coupling between spin states in silicon and hence to quantum integrated photon-spin circuits. This would be a crucial breakthrough for the application potential of silicon quantum technologies.
