Summary

In this article-based dissertation I ask, firstly, how is victimhood constructed in German societal debate on extremist terrorism. Secondly, I am interested in how we talk about victims of different kinds of terrorism. Are there signs of inequality? Therefore I ask also, if and what kind of differences can be identified between positions of victims of Neo-Nazism and victims of Islamic terrorism. This research concentrates on the terrorist group Nationalsozialistischer Untergrund (NSU) and on the terror attack at the Christmas market in Breitscheidplatz in Berlin 2016. Data will be collected from various fields of societal debate (political speeches, newsarticles and social media). As a method I will use the critical discourse analysis CDA. The work on this project has started in December 2018.
