Summary

In Finland, general positive financial trend has effected ecomomic growth in enterprises and their interest to develop wellbeing at work.
Problem and its solving. Many organizational activities related with wellbeing at work are irrational, short term and momentual in enterprises. Typically, these activies do not form a coherent entity and are not managed systematically. The focus in this project is to build a tool for supporting the management of wellbeing at work. This tool will be completely free and easy-to-use application for smartphones and laptops. Organizations can recognize their development needs by answering selected questions and getting feedback and guidance how to proceed. The application also suggests suitable methods for each task supporting independent and participative development in organizations and guides to manage wellbeing at work as an entity. There is no other similar digital application available for different kinds of organizations.
Aims. The aims of this project are 1) to build free, tested, webbased digital application for smartphones and laptops by which companies can assess and develop their management of wellbeing at work and to recognize the level and development needs of management, and also to guide organizations in their development activities, and 2) to spread the use of application broadly to different organizations in Finland and so increase well-being at work in general.
Products. The project will develop a method for Managerial Change in Wellbeing at Work, by which organizations can assess and develop the management of wellbeing at work. The method consists of 1) the assessment of basic status of wellbeing at work (a question set by which organizations self-evaluate the current state of the wellbeing at work management. 2) As a result, the method will give feedback about the level of well-being and highlight the development needs of management of wellbeing at work. 3) The development needs will guide to development methods, activities, and evaluations of wellbeing at work management . The Training of Wellbeing at Work Management method is simple and easy to use by smartphoness and laptop. Also a Handbook of Management of Wellbeing at Work including essential activities in organizations will be written to support supervisors' and managers' work.
Partners. Universities of Vaasa, Oulu, Lapland, Jyväskylä and Turku as well as Universities of Applied Sciences of Oulu, Jyväskylä, Turku and Saimaa are project partners. They form a coalition of high expertise, experience and co-operation. University of Vaasa will coordinate the project.
Target groups. Target groups will consist from small and middle sized enterprises reprensenting different production fields (5 to 10 enterprises/region).
Methods. The development methods include group works among partners, workshops with target enterprises, testings and pilots of digital application in the enterprises, feedback and evaluation, and evaluation of the effects and changes in management of wellbeing at work. The method will be announced and marketed broadly to enterprises and organizations via several organizations and channels.
Expected impact. This project emphasizes systematic management of wellbeing at work in organizations. As a result, employees and managers will become more aware of wellbeing at work, and their professional competence, motivation and ability to work increase. When suitable development methods are easily available, culture of wellbeing at work will increase in organizations. At organizational level, effects will also be linked to better productivity and innovativity. The costs of sickness absences, disabilities and accidents will decrease and stay in control. In long term, effects will also increase and highlight the success and the attractivity of organizations, the quality of working life, and the whole national economic growth.
