Tiivistelmä

Nowadays, multinational companies and number of start- up companies, non-profit organizations or
small businesses are looking for smart solutions. Innovative ideas can solve complex or easier
problems and even individuals can profit without any formalities from them. "Big things have small
beginnings", but require people with open minds, unconventional ideas and willingness to overcome
obstacles. Finding of right people and projects that have these assumptions and can create real
results should be supported by education of youth through orientation for practice and needs of
labour market. By the other words, there is a critical need for educating millions of new "ICT
engineers with smart skills" throughout the EU because they will be one of the crucial parts of the
companies in the Industry 4.0 era which is ahead of us. Surely, such highly skilled professionals will
be equally important for both multinational companies consisting of hundreds of thousands of
employees as well as for establishing hundreds of thousands of SMEs and new start-up companies.
The "Education of Future ICT Experts Based on Smart Society Needs (SmartSoc)" project is a step
forward in that direction, taken by consortium of 12 universities and one registered voluntary
organisation from 9 EU countries. The main objective of the SmartSoc project is to set up a
transnational multidisciplinary intensive study program in the field of ICT-based entrepreneurship.

Among main priorities of SmartSoc curricula will be to enforce and help strengthen synergy between
technical, economic and legal aspects of IT entrepreneurial education. Specifically, students will
participate in case studies related to the role and usage of smart solutions for sustainable and
inclusive societies. This task is responding to economic, societal and environmental challenges
defined by strategic documents „Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development" (UN resolution) and "Horizon Europe" (EU regulation) programs. Each case study will
include 4-5 students from SmartSoc universities (each student will be from a different country) and 2
mentors (one mentor will be technical expert and other will take care of business perspective of the
project) from SmartSoc universities and/or industry. Consequently, the SmartSoc project will
promote familiarization the partner countries of the project with new ITC challenges set by
compatibility with the strategies for smart specialization (RIS3 SK in Slovakia).

Our project will develop basic (i.e., Maths, Science and Technology) knowledge and transversal (i.e.,
critical thinking, problem solving, collaborative working in intercultural teams, management) skills
using innovative methods (i.e., teaching and learning based on case studies and intercultural
collaboration implemented through “blended” mobility).
A special focus in our project curricula will be put on technical, economic and legal aspects of
entrepreneurial education. Specifically, students will participate in projects related to the role of
information and communication technology (ICT) in responding to societal challenges defined by
"Horizon Europe" program. Each project will include 4-5 students from participant universities (each
student will be from a different country) and 2 mentors (one mentor will be technical expert and other
will take care of business perspective of the project) from partner universities and/or industry.
Consequently, our project will promote social entrepreneurship among young people. In such a way,
our project will proactively support tackling the challenges identified in the public consultation on the
review of the "EU Modernisation Agenda for Higher Education" as well support effective
implementation of the "Investment Plan for Europe".
