Summary

The FutuRemote project focuses on an ongoing significant revolution of knowledge work triggered
by the covid-19 pandemic: the transition to digital remote work. Our target is to identify, together
with the participating companies, the needs and possible solutions related to productive remote
work and collaboration. Based on applied research, the long-term aim is to develop various
structural, social and information technological conditions that could facilitate the digital disruption
in organizing knowledge work. In the research part of this co-creation phase we produce a
knowledge base that supports the development work in companies. In particular, we will analyze
longitudinal survey data on knowledge workers’ and organizations’ experiences of the
transformation to remote work during the covid-19 pandemic, which we have been gathering since
April 2020, as well as compare the findings to similar studies in other countries. With both
qualitative and quantitative analyses, we will create a research-based analysis of the challenges
and successes of remote knowledge work in Finland, which provides a unique perspective to new
development and business opportunities. In addition, at the co-creation phase, we will explore the
interests of the participating companies to develop products and services for the identified needs
and start to build an multisectoral business ecosystem with various complementary companies.
