Summary

The legitimacy of Finland’s carbon neutrality transition, including the impact of climate policies on employment, equity and future generations, as well as possibilities for the public to shape and influence the transition – forms the core of the 2035Legitimacy project. The project is designed to fill an important gap in existing research through a multi- and transdisciplinary approach that promotes co-creation and emphasises a responsive relationship with the surrounding society and relevant actors. The project contributes to a sustainable and equitable response to climate change by identifying concrete ways to strengthen the legitimacy of Finland’s just transition to a carbon neutral welfare state, including by suggesting concrete policies and measures through which individuals and other actors in the Finnish society can be supported during the transition.
