Summary

The project focuses on evaluating the suitability of IBM’s Watson Health cognitive computing technology to Finland’s new digital social and healthcare -system.

The project will be carried out in co-operation between IBM, University of Jyväskylä, the Central Finland Health Care District (KSSHP) and other leading experts in the field. IBM will receive through KSSHP a test environment for using Watson Health -technologies in social and healthcare. The University of Jyväskylä will further analyze the data, solution and preliminary testing results produced by IBM with their research and testing. IBM offers its support to utilizing the Watson technologies as efficiently as possible through e.g. IBM-University of Jyväskylä workshops. In these workshops the material, knowledge and solutions acquired during the project will be analyzed and developed.

Case studies will look at the suitability of Watson Health technologies in enhancing the Central Finland Health Care Districts new digital hospital, health care and home to home service chain management. In addition the suitability of Watson technologies for supporting personal health management and independent living of elderly people will be researched. Also the national and international interest of companies towards building an IBM Watson technology based ecosystem in Finland will be examined, while activating global business in the sector.

The project will raise Finland onto a new level in understanding and applying IBM Watson technologies. This is an extensive paradigm shift in the digital world and technology transfer to Finland. The project will produce knowledge on how new technology assists digital social and healthcare solutions to gain significantly more efficient operation, better services and overall savings. The results of the research will be announced in 10 events. Additionally the project will be reported through different media (radio, TV, newspapers, specialist magazines, project www-pages).
