Summary
The research project concentrates on the disciplinary literacy practices, language and texts of history, and examines the ability and ways of high school students to interpret and build historical knowledge in the context of Finnish education. We are looking for answers to the following questions: How is historical knowledge construed with language and texts? What is typical of the ways of presenting and producing historical knowledge with texts, language and other forms of presentation? What kind of texts and textual practices do Finnish young people become socialized during the study of history? How are texts used, interpreted and produced at school in both traditional and technologically supported environments? What is the capability of students to interpret critically the historical source materials? How are the historical literacy practices supported in classrooms and how are they evaluated? The project is multidisciplinary in nature as the researchers involved represent different disciplines: applied language, history and education.-
