Summary
Despite the importance of understanding and preventing unethical behavior at work, there are still significant gaps in our knowledge of how the moral self and moral motivation operate in organizational contexts. This research conceptualizes and empirically tests a new concept of moral work identity as a part of the moral self, which includes personal moral values and the degree of self-awareness about them. Using a mixed method study design that combines qualitative interviews and longitudinal questionnaire-based datasets, it will investigate both the individual and organizational antecedents of moral work identity development among employees and managers. This research, carried out in the University of Jyväskylä, will provide results that are applicable in preventing unethical behavior and supporting personal moral agency at both the individual and organizational levels.
