Summary
The research concentrates on Finland’s tangible cultural heritage, more precisely, on the investigation of the materials used to create parts of it. During the dissertation process I will identify the pigment palettes of three finnish artists: Hjalmar Munsterhjelm, Akseli Gallen-Kallela and Sigrid Schauman.
All material analyses will be conducted in co-operation with the Finnish National Gallery´s materials research laboratory. Analytical methods are optical microscopy; polarized light microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (EDXRF). Other analytical methods, such as scanning electron microscopy, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Raman-spectroscopy are used if needed.
