Summary
This comparative project studies how Finnish, French and US countermedia mobilize a ”disenfranchised” community of prosumers from people who are losing trust in the mainstream media. We collect data on polemic news event coverage in hybrid media space using a mixed-methods approach; qualitative methods from media studies and sociology complemented by a computational big data toolkit. This provides unique insight into alternative news outlets’ transnational mobilization strategies and narratives.
