Tiivistelmä

In the present project the project partners from Romania, Hungary, the Netherlands and Italy seek for a cross-sectoral collaboration in order to help their schools in becoming more creative environments. The project promotes “critical creative project events” and enhances the design of everyday school/classroom creative environments to bring long-term changes that support the acquisition of creative skills and competences.

The project explored some core characteristics of the Finnish education system that emphasizes creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship and collaboration. Although none of the education systems can be copied by other countries, having an overview of the ways Finnish schools have been transformed to places for creativity (including school culture, school “habitat”, teaching methods, communication with the wider community) will be inspiring for teachers and education stakeholders participating in the project.

The role of the Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Education and Psychology, University of Jyväskylä will be to provide a blended training course for teachers on how to facilitate creativity within their schools and teaching practices (a practical approach will be used: participating teachers will make projects on implementing creativity boosting methods in their schools/teaching practices and then analyze case studies).

The training course will include online training and a 5-day on-site course in Finland for 16 primary school teachers (teachers of children aged 6-15) from Romania, Hungary, the Netherlands and Italy.

Suggested topics of the training (to be adapted/ modified/ restricted/ diversified following the needs analysis report): How school culture affects the creativity of students; How the physical environment affects creativity; Access to new or different media and technologies; Use of the outdoor environments; Methods to engage, motivate, empower students; The role of play in promoting creativity; Involvement with outside communities, including the local business communities.

Core training materials (presentations, case studies) will be available on the project platform (respecting the IPR rights of the trainers and University) so that other teachers from these countries can learn from it too. The content will be translated to the languages of the participants).

Timeline: The results of the training needs analysis will be ready by 28 February 2018. The online training course will be available by 30 April 2018. The 5-day on-site course in Finland will take place in May 2018.
