Summary

JYU Multidisciplinary FIRST+ Network is coordinated by the International Office of the University of Jyväskylä (hereafter JYU) and it comprises of

• Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia (hereafter Herzen);
• Saint Petersburg University (hereafter SPU);
• Saint Petersburg State University of Economics (hereafter UNECON)
• Saint Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies Mechanics and Optics (hereafter ITMO University);
• Peter the Great Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University (hereafter SPbPU);
• Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University (hereafter LETI)
• Higher School of Economics – Moscow and St. Petersburg Campuses
• Moscow Institute of Physics & Technology
• P.G. Demidov Jaroslavl State University


The network will carry out well-planned student exchange and teaching visits in selected fields, focusing particularly on business studies, chemistry, history, information technology and social sciences, and implement joint intensive courses hosted by partner universities in Saint Petersburg. I addition to semester-long student exchanges, a number of short-term student mobilities will be carried out from JYU to Russian partner universities.

The aims and expected impacts of the project are
1) to provide financial support that enables a reciprocal student exchange in the key fields of the network, increasing academic expertise and intercultural competence of the students;
2) to increase direct contacts between academic staff of JYU and the partner institutions in the mentioned fields, facilitating research cooperation and the launching of other forms of academic cooperation;
3) to increase the knowledge of JYU students and teachers in Russian language and culture and, vice versa, to increase the knowledge of Russian students and teachers in Finnish language and culture;
4) to provide skilled work force with knowledge of Russian language & culture for the business needs of Jyväskylä region.


The network aims at implementing during the project period the following activities:
- two one-week intensive courses taking place in Saint Petersburg
- 6 teaching visits from Russian partner universities to JYU
- 3 teaching visits from JYU to partner universities in Russia
- 10 short-term student mobilities from JYU to Russia
- 21 long-term (4-months) student mobilities from Russian partner universities to JYU
- 12 long-term student mobilities from JYU to Russian partner universities
