Summary

PATHWAY will analyze individuals’ personality traits in relation to physical activity and sedentary time from a lifespan perspective. The project is based on representative samples totaling over 1 800 participants drawn from three studies and covering personality predictors of the level of physical activity from age 8 to 85. The 3-year interdisciplinary (sports and health sciences, psychology, gerontology, statistics) project will be conducted at the Gerontology Research Center, Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, University of Jyväskylä, by four senior researchers, a post-doctoral researcher, and a doctoral student, with contributions by Florida State University and LIKES Research Centre. It is expected to yield new insights on individual factors associated with a physical active or sedentary lifestyle and to advance new strategies to promote physical activity among middle-aged and older people. The project will educate interdisciplinary experts in the field of sport science.
