Summary
SITE consortium produces novel understanding of competence development during initial teacher education (ITE) and in-service phase and its links to the student selection. SITE utilizes large-scale national student selection data, longitudinal follow-up data, and mixed-method research design to investigate the validity and reliability of selection methods. In addition, SITE examines how competences measured at selection phase predict the developmental paths of prospective class teachers during the first three study years and analyses teaching quality at the completion of studies at transition to working life. The proposed project will be carried out in collaboration between University of Jyväskylä and University of Turku. The study will have a major impact in the field of education, especially teacher selection research, as it responds to the challenge of reliably assessing and predicting competence professional development of teacher students.
