Abstract
This article investigates esports as a part of the lives of Finnish boys who are active gamers. Through qualitative interviews (n= 14), we discuss the boys' views on esports as a persona! and societal activity. The research indicates that esports can be compared to traditiona! sports both as a goal-oriented competitive activity and as a social pastime for boys who play together with others. For them, esports is a hobby that is increasingly supported by family, friends, and society alike. Supervised esports and the related social infrastructures likely encourage the development of healthy gaming habits.
