Tiivistelmä
Hair and hairdressing was an important societal, political and fashion-related matter throughout early modern Europe. The growing demand and the social and political significance of hair made hair professionals important members of early modern societies. This provided them, at least in theory, with a position where they could earn a decent living and even accumulate wealth. Nevertheless, many hair professionals had repayment problems, faced poverty and ended up insolvent. In this chapter, the authors discuss how hair professionals in Stockholm managed these types of situations between 1750 and 1830. They argue that there were also other causes for the difficult financial situation that faced Stockholm hair professionals than the weakening of the industrial field. Hair business professionals often ended up in financial troubles and accumulated debts because of the inherent costliness of their line of work.
