Abstract

It has been shown that therapeutic exercise can reduce pain and increase functional capacity among patients with chronic low back pain. It is important that exercises to effectively activate the trunk muscles are easy for people to perform in their everyday life. The aim of this study was to determine which exercises best activate the trunck muscles and to compare the differences between gym and home exercises that activate these muscles. Of the homa and the gym exercises, the four-limb lift and the seated back extension, respectively, produced the highest mean muscle activity in the lumbar erector spinae and multifidus muscles in the study, and their activity levels were very similar. This study justifies the use of exercises from both the study's exercise categories in clinical work, as long as the client's resources are taken into account.
