Abstract
Musculoskeletal diseases may restrict physical activity and lead to changes in body composition and to metabolic disturbances. Individually tailored exercise therapy improves physical function, prevents disability and reduces pain. Individually tailored exercise therapy may improve quality of life and lead to societal monetary savings. Benefits have been documented in meta-analyses based on randomized controlled trials of patients with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, non-specific chronic low back pain, neck pain and fibromyalgia.
