Abstract

This article examines the attacks on reception centres and asylum seekers in Finland in autumn 2015. Were they political violence or even terrorism, or just individual hate-cries? We analyse attacks on a case-by-case basis using a variety of sources, particularly police pre-trial reports, statistics, and media coverage. We treat attacks as a pan-European phenomenon, focusing in particular on 20 serious attacks in Finland. By serious attacks, we refer to cases in which flammable or explosive substances have been used or in which asylum seekers have been endangered.
