'I am an education economist. Economics of education is the application of economics methods on educational research and educational policy evaluation. Compared to other educational sciences, economics of education distinguishes itself by having a more quantitative focus and a closer affinity with statistical methods. The economics of education toolbox allows us to handle data sets that include millions of students, but also to design randomized experiments. Because of its focus on causal relationships, economics of education helps us understand which policies work, and which do not. My own research is a mix of policy evaluation, e.g. of the Finnish student financing system
