A title of docent in the special field of Early Year’s Physical Education (TAU, 2024), PhD in Health Sciences (JYU, 2015), MSc in Sport Sciences (JYU, 1999).
I am a University Teacher of Physical Education in the Department of Education at the University of Jyväskylä (JYU), Finland.
I have been a member of a national expert group that developed the Finnish physical activity recommendations for preschool children (2016) and participated in a research and development project on monitoring young children’s joy of motion, physical activity, and motor skills (JOYPAM, 2021). I am also a member of the Nordic MovECE and the AIESEP Special Interest Group (SIG) for the Early Years networks, which are interested in early childhood education, physical activity, health, physical education, and sports pedagogy issues. My research focuses on young children’s and their families’ physical activity, well-being, and physical education in early childhood teacher education.
My current multidisciplinary research projects are as follows:
1. Relationships between socio-ecological characteristics and families’ playground use in different seasons in Finland
2. Early childhood teacher education (ECTE) preservice teachers’ self-efficacy in physical education
3. Sand play among 0–8-year-old children
