Why Did They Leave School: A Narrative Inquiry About Perceived Determinants Behind Diminishing Motivation and School Engagement.
The issue will be studied from two perspectives. The narrative interviews of the early school leavers provide the point of view of the informants and will be described and analysed narratively. The narratives will also be analysed using theoretical frames. The main theoretical frame is planned to be the Self Determination Theory, to be more specific, the concept of the three basic psychological needs of autonomy, relatedness and competence, as facilitators of motivation. It will be analyzed, how are the need support, frustration and thwarting of each need reflected in the narratives of the participants.
