Summary

Good aerobic fitness and high circulating high density lipoprotein (HDL) both predict healthy years. Endurance training improves aerobic fitness and increases circulating HDL. Background mechanisms behind association between aerobic fitness and HDL concentration are scarcely known. My aim is to investigate effect of aerobic fitness on composition and function of HDL particles. I also study exercise induced modifications in structure of HDL and cellular level mechanisms through which HDL modulates oxygen metabolism. Results of this study may help to find new targets for treatment of blood vessels or unbalanced metabolism.
