Summary
The project explores the identities, practices, and roles of the emerging wealth elites in Finland
and Sweden and asks whether such elites are developing new identities, views, or practices that
signal a departure from the Nordic model. By focusing on the new elites, the project tackles a
central challenge facing the Nordics today: will the cross-class alliances and solidarity between
social groups and the business sector hold in the future, and if not, what kind of alternatives the
emerging elites and capital owners offer. As a result, we examine possibilities for social
compromises and solidarity in the future.
